# How Alta Works

> Alta lets you add cash, choose a market, and make a prediction on whether the price will go Up or Down. You can optionally use Boost for more exposure, and you can Cash Out whenever you’re done.

## The core flow

1. **Add cash**\
   Fund your Alta account using the options available in your region.
2. **Choose a market**\
   Browse categories like **Stocks**, **Private markets**, **Indexes**, **Crypto**, and **Metals & Energy**.
3. **Pick Up or Down**\
   Select the direction you think the market price will move.
4. **Optional: use Boost**\
   Turn on **Boost** if you want more exposure on your prediction.
5. **Cash Out when you’re done**\
   Cash Out closes your prediction and realizes your result.

## Key terms

* **Market**: An asset or category you can make a prediction on.
* **Up / Down**: Your direction prediction on the market price.
* **Boost**: Increases your exposure on a prediction.
* **Cash Out**: Closes your prediction.
